OK, so I'm on a Ryan Adams kick this week, but still coasting from those Dead shows, too. I'm also planning to see Phil Lesh this weekend in Boulder, so let's keep the Grateful Dead theme going - here's Ryan Adams covering "Wharf Rat" including an intro where he explains what he loves about the Grateful Dead … Continue reading Wednesday Cover: Ryan Adams, “Wharf Rat”
Meklit Hadero and Quinn DeVeaux cover Arcade Fire. Simply. Gorgeous.
Sorry for the lack of activity lately, it's been a crazy month! I spent about 9 days in Europe and have been catching up on work since getting back. There's been plenty of shows, hopefully I'll have time to post about them tomorrow. Tonight I'm kicking off the Red Rocks season with Trey Anastasio Band, so … Continue reading Wednesday Cover: Trey and Bobby, “Million Reasons”
Eddie Vedder covers Talking Heads, last weekend in Boston. I love this guy!
I love this cover version of the song Hoppipolla, originally by the Icelandic post-rock band Sigur Ros. This version, by Berkeley, CA band We Are Scientists, is more cleanly arranged than the original version, with crisp acoustic guitar replacing the atmospheric echo of the synthesizer. The vocals are also cleaner and more intelligible than the … Continue reading Wednesday Cover: We Are Scientists, “Hoppipolla”
In the spirit of Radiohead this week, here's a Radiohead cover recorded by Umphrey's McGee at Red Rocks a few years back. I posted a Phantogram cover of this song a while ago, but I think I like this version better! I'm not the biggest 'Umphreak' but I think this song suits their prog-rock mentality … Continue reading Wednesday Cover: Umphrey’s McGee, “Weird Fishes/Arpeggi”
I've always loved this cover of Culture Club's "Do You Really Want to Hurt Me" of Violent Femmes' fifth album Why Do Birds Sing?, released back in 1991. That's all for now!
I'll just leave this here - I love the sensitive punk take on the classic blues-rock ballad. Enjoy!
Here's one of the best cover versions of ALL TIME. It's fairly old and well-known, and actually ranks #4 on Youtube's list of 100 best cover songs of all time (not sure how they determine their list, but it's pretty solid) Gonzalez takes Swedish art-rock group The Knife's sprawling (even squirming) anthem to the drug-like influence of … Continue reading Wednesday Cover: Jose Gonzalez, “Heartbeats”
Sorry I've been gone for a week, life gets busy! I thought I'd quickly share one of my favorite recent covers this Wednesday in a quick post. Here's Phantogram paying tribute to Phil Collins with their beautiful cover of "Take Me Home". I recommend you listen with headphones 🙂
